BizYellow.ca ("we", "us", "our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and your rights under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA — the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act).

1. What We Collect

Visitors (no account)

When you visit BizYellow.ca without creating an account, we collect minimal anonymous information:

• Standard server logs: IP address, user agent, requested URL, referrer, timestamp.
• Anonymous analytics about page views, search terms, and navigation patterns.
• Essential cookies to make the Service work (no advertising trackers).

Account holders & business owners

When you create an account or claim a business listing, we collect:

• Your name, email address, and business affiliation.
• The contents of your business listing (description, hours, photos, etc.).
• Communication records (support tickets, contact form submissions).
• Limited payment metadata returned by our payment processor — but not your full credit card number.

Contact form

When you use our contact form, we store your name, email, subject, and message in our database so we can respond.

2. What We DO NOT Collect

• We do not collect your full credit card number — Stripe handles all payment data directly.
• We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party.
• We do not run third-party advertising trackers, social media pixels, or behavioural ad networks.
• We do not require you to provide a phone number to use the Service.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Operate the Service — display listings, run search, process subscriptions.
• Communicate with you about your account, subscription renewals, or support inquiries.
• Send occasional service notices (e.g. policy updates, security advisories). You can opt out of non-essential emails at any time.
• Detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, and security issues.
• Improve the Service through aggregated, anonymized analytics.

4. Cookies

We use a small number of essential first-party cookies:

• A session cookie to keep you logged in.
• A CSRF token to protect form submissions.
• A preferences cookie if you customize the display.

We do not use third-party advertising cookies. Some embedded content (e.g. a YouTube video on a featured listing, an OpenStreetMap embed) may set their own cookies governed by their own privacy policies.

5. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services that may process your information:

• Stripe, Inc. — payment processing. Stripe's Privacy Policy.
• OpenStreetMap — basic map data for the directory and embedded maps. OSM Privacy Policy.
• Cloudflare — security and content delivery. Cloudflare Privacy Policy.

6. Data Retention

We retain personal information only as long as needed to provide the Service or as required by law:

• Account data: retained while your account is active, plus 12 months after closure.
• Subscription/billing records: retained for 7 years to meet Canadian tax record-keeping requirements.
• Contact form submissions: retained for 24 months.
• Server logs: rotated and deleted after 90 days.

7. Your Rights Under PIPEDA

As a Canadian resident, you have the right to:

• Know what personal information we hold about you;
• Access that information;
• Correct inaccurate information;
• Withdraw your consent and request deletion of your account and associated data, subject to legal retention requirements.

8. Security

We use industry-standard security measures including HTTPS everywhere, password hashing, prepared SQL statements, and limited access to production systems. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we make reasonable efforts to protect your information.

9. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

10. International Transfers

Our servers are hosted in Canada. However, some third-party services we use (such as Stripe and Cloudflare) may process data in other jurisdictions, including the United States, where data protection laws may differ from Canada's.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be posted here with a new "Last updated" date. Material changes affecting your rights will be communicated by email to account holders.
